Digital Technologies News
In Digital Technologies (8.1) we’ve been learning how to build and code robots. We had a class Sumo-bot Battle and managed to have nine functioning robots battle it out in the ring. The student work sample below shows the computational thinking skills required to achieve this goal. This type branching algorithm forms the basis of many forms of logic that control the technology we all love to use.
A huge congratulations goes to Lachlan and Koby, who were the overall Sumo-bot Champions. Students Amali J and Hanni are to be congratulated for winning the Innovation Award for their design.
We look forward to next year where Year 8s will again have the opportunity to participate in robotics as part of Digital Technologies.

Project O – Dockside Festival
Recently the Project O students had a unique opportunity to display their event co-ordination skills and leadership qualities at Stanley’s Dockside festival. Also the Smithton High Band ‘Peeve’, got their first paying gig in front of an audience.
The young ladies of Project O managed the door sales, event set up, public relations, communications between community groups, camera and photography work, stage preparations among many other jobs.
The students liaised and worked with the Lions Club, artist Monique Brumby, Red Cow Dairies, Slip Stream Circus, Burnie’s Taiko drummers and the Smithton High School band.
It is fantastic to see the students representing themselves so professionally out in the community and the effort that the students have put into their projects this year is a credit to them and those that have supported them in their journey.
